IRNA � Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi condemned US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo�s statements on Iran�s alleged meddling in Venezuela's internal affairs, describing them as ridiculous.

Late on Sunday, he added, �Donald Trump�s US wants to turn Latin America into its backyard like it was in 19th century, oblivious to the fact that the nations have got awake and the wheel of time does not move back.�

While the Iranian experts are engaged in improving water and electricity systems of the country at the request of its government, the US has looted Venezuela�s 30 billion currency reserves, urging them to rise up to the legitimate government or suffer hunger, he said.

The US move is a flagrant case of interference in Venezuela�s domestic affairs and is doomed, Mousavi said.

Pompeo has claimed that Iran�s presence in southern America is aimed at interfering in the Latin American country's internal affairs.
