UAE, Saudi Arabia send aid to flood-stricken Iran

Middle East Monitor - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia have organised aid packages to help those affected by floods in Iran.
The UAE Red Crescent said in a statement on its website that a plane carrying 95 tonnes of humanitarian aid was heading to Iran as part of a joint UAE-Saudi initiative to alleviate the suffering of Iranians affected by floods.

This, it added, was an effort to implement the directives of UAE President, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan,Russia Todayreported.

Two million Iranians have been affected by the floods that killed at least 76 people across the country since March and who need urgent humanitarian assistance, the UAE Red Crescent said.

About 1,900 cities and villages have been affected by floods after exceptionally heavy rains since 19 March.

The disaster has left aid agencies struggling to cope and seen 86,000 people moved to emergency shelters.

The government has told citizens, and especially flood-affected farmers, that all losses will be compensated.
