IRNA - Managing Director of Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran Mohammad Rastad said the measures taken to promote maritime security has resulted in putting Iran in white list of International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Due to the fact that waterways leading to Iranian ports need full security, providing hydrographic maps of the ports waterways and also doing dredging will promote maritime security, Rastad said.
He added that the establishment of navigational assistance signs at ports and waterways are among Ports and Maritime Organization of Irans responsibilities as regard safeguarding.
He went on to say that continuous technical monitoring of ships are on the organizations agenda.
Rastad went on to say that Iran Ports and Maritime Organization has also put on the agenda all requirements for implementing and promoting maritime security based on the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).
SOLAS is an international maritime treaty which sets minimum safety standards in the construction, equipment and operation of merchant ships.
The convention requires signatory flag states to ensure that ships flagged by them comply with at least these standards.
