MOSCOW, July 2 (RIA Novosti) Irans president said Tuesday that preliminary talks for Russia to help build a new Iranian nuclear power plant had been completed, and the project just needed Russian President Vladimir Putins approval to go ahead.Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told Putin in the Kremlin that the Russian-built Bushehr nuclear power plant, now running at full capacity, was a good symbol of bilateral collaboration.
He said that such collaboration could be expanded with a new power plant, adding that the two countries had good mutual understanding on partnerships in oil and gas.
In April, the former Iranian manager of theBushehr plantsaid that Iran planned to build a new 360-megawatt nuclear power plant in the south of the country. In February, Irans foreign minister said that Tehran expected to start joint work with Russia on a second power unit at the Bushehr plant.
