Iranian adviser voices doubts over US exit from Afghanistan

Tasnim A top adviser to the Iranian parliament speaker predicted that the American military forces would not leave Afghanistan.

In a meeting with a delegation of Afghan media activists in Tehran on Sunday, senior adviser to Irans parliament speaker for international affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said the US military forces are not going to withdraw from the region or Afghanistan.

The pullout of American military forces from Afghanistan will remain just a promise in the US presidents election campaign, he added.

Amir Abdollahian also decried Washingtons double standards on terrorism and its supports for the Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, warning that the Daesh has managed to reorganize its operational cells in certain parts of Afghanistan.

He also denounced the US assassination of top Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani as a brazen example of state-sponsored terrorism, saying the cruel measure sparked hatred and condemnation from regional people.

US troops have been in Afghanistan since an American invasion of the country in 2001. About 14,000 US troops are currently deployed.

US President Donald Trumps election promise of withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan has been on-again, off-again for quite some time.
