Tasnim � An Iranian lawmaker said the three European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal have deferred their decision to trigger the so-called snapback provisions of the JCPOA as it lacked international credibility.

In an interview with Tasnim, spokesperson for Iranian Parliament�s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said the announcement by the three European parties to the nuclear deal � France, the UK and Germany � that they were going to trigger the dispute mechanism in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action was a bullying move in violation of international principles.

�The Europeans realized that such a move has no international credibility, and Iran will have the upper hand and the trump card, because if such an issue goes to the (UN) Security Council, their measure will get nowhere; that�s why they postponed triggering the snapback mechanism,� the MP stated.

Naqavi Hosseini added that the European governments have been pressurized by the US to resort to the snapback mechanism in the JCPOA, because the Europeans are concerned about their economic interaction with Washington.

�In fact, the Americans tried to put pressure on the Europeans and declare the death of the JCPOA in order to form a new mechanism,� the Iranian lawmaker went on to say.

Iranian officials have said the move by France, Britain and Germany to trigger the dispute mechanism is legally baseless and politically wrong.

In May 2018, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA.

Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the JCPOA after the US withdrawal, but the three EU parties to the deal have failed to ensure Iran�s economic interests.

The EU�s inaction forced Tehran to stop honoring certain commitments to the nuclear deal.

Iran maintains that the new measures are not designed to harm the JCPOA but to save the accord by creating a balance in the commitments.
