5.4-Richter quake shakes southern Iran

IRNA - An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale shook the town of Ruydar, Hormuzgan Province, at 1:34 a.m. (10:04 GMT) on Monday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake occurred in the depth of 16 km at 52.32 degrees longitude and 27.20 degrees latitude.

No report has so far been released on the probable casualties or damage to the property.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
