Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his visiting Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad held the first round of bilateral talks in Tehran on Monday.
Syria's Mekdad arrived in Tehran late on Sunday at the invitation of Mohammad Javad Zarif.
While in Tehran, Mekdad is scheduled to hold several meetings with senior Iranian officials, focusing on ways to strengthen relations between the two friendly countries in various fields, in addition to exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest.
Mekdad and his accompanying delegation were received upon their arrival by a number of senior officials of the Iranian Foreign Ministry and members of the Syrian embassy in Tehran, SANA reported.
Mekdad is also supposed to hold talks with the Secretary of Irans Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani on Tuesday over bilateral issues the latest regional developments especially fighting terrorism.
