The commemoration service held for the victims of that sad event reminds the world nations of the need for pursuing and materializing the exalted ideal of a world free from all types of nuclear weapons, and to rid the world of the ominous and constant threat of such weapons, which always put at stake the International peace and security, added Khatibzadeh in his message on the occasion.
He said that the worlds nuclear powers, including the United States, in the framework of the international agreements, and especially the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) have clearly announced their commitment to their full and permanent disarmament of the nuclear weapons.
Yet, thus far not only they have not taken any serious step aimed at achieving that goal, but also those countries, and above them all, the United States, have on an always accelerating trend kept on modernizing their armaments on the one hand, and improving the status of their nuclear weapons in accordance with their security-military doctrines on the other hand, added Khatibzadeh.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman further emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran, in accordance with its basic policies, emphasizes on the need for international disarmament of all nuclear powers, while stressing the need for taking advantage of the nuclear energy for peaceful purposes for every country.
Both the possession and using of such unconventional weapons is always contrary to the entire rules of humanity, as well as the international commitments, and therefore Iran announces its readiness for constructive cooperation with the international community aimed at materializing a world free from all types of nuclear weapons, said Khatibzadeh.
He concluded his message arguing that practical and legal moves should be taken to materialize that objective based on cooperation among every country, further stressing that according to Article 6 of the NPT full nuclear disarmament, free from political excuses, and pretexts of some owners of such weapons is a dire need in todays world.
