Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said that the Islamic Republic shows responsibility in respect of death of a child of the country, but Tehran does not accept meddling by certain European officials regarding recent developments in Iran.
Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a phone conversation with his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio on Wednesday, talking about the latest developments, mutual ties, Vienna talks for lifting anti-Iran sanctions, recent happenings and the misuse of some rioters, as well as the foreign meddling in the Islamic countrys internal affairs.
The Islamic Republic of Iran believes in democracy in practice, the Iranian minister said, adding that the authorities have always paid heed to peaceful demands of the citizens, but organized elements and terrorists have tried to derail the peaceful gatherings of the Iranian people in Zahedan, Sistan and Baluchestan province, with the aim of turn the protests into violence, chaos and massacre of innocent civilians and police forces.
However, the great nation of Iran resorted to their political insight to stand against foreign interference and did not allow some elements to tarnish political independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country, the top diplomat added.
We show responsibility in dealing with the death of a daughter of Iran based on our regulations, and the precise and fair judicial procedure will continue seriously, he said, noting that we are unpleased with stances and interferences made by certain European officials regarding the recent developments.
If the European Union wants to adopt double standard and a hasty move in this respect, it should wait for effective and reciprocal response by the Islamic Republic, he warned.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian FM referred to agreements achieved in his recent trip to Rome, noting that both countries have succeeded in preparing a new roadmap and that Iran gives importance to expansion of the existing historical and friendly ties with Italy.
Luigi Di Maio, for his part, said that Italy attaches great significance to Iran, appreciating Tehran for achieving a sustainable agreement to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Italy will continue its efforts to help reach a consensus in Vienna talks in the shortest time possible, the Italian minister added.
He also noted that Italy respects sovereignty and laws of the Islamic Republic, arguing that peaceful requests of the people are different from chaos and terrorism.
