Waters around Qeshm Island are the habitat of thousands of species of corals and over a thousand types of fish and other aquatic animals, which provide tourists with a great opportunity to become familiar with the precious treasury of the Persian Gulf.

Qeshm Island, an arrow-shaped island in the Strait of Hormuz, is separated from the mainland of Iran by the Strait of Khuran (Clarence) in the Persian Gulf region.

The island is engulfed with calcareous rocks. The rocks and jagged coastlines as well as the diversity of species in shallow water create unique scenery in front of tourists, who want to spend interesting times in that area.

Shrimp, locust lobster, mullet, catfish, anguillidae and table fish are among several creatures in the waters around the island.

Moreover, various species of starfish and crabs are available in that area.

In waters around Qeshm Island, there are over 30 species of corals, while the total number of corals in the Persian Gulf reaches more than 70 species.

The corals play a key role in supplying the existing species with nutrition and are of great importance in maritime water treatment, improving the life cycle for other species.

Sharks are other species, which are considered as a tourist attraction in this area.

Of course, turtles that are living in waters and coastal areas of the Qeshm Island, play a significant role in attracting tourists in particular in spring, when turtles lay their eggs.
