Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian has left Mauritania for Nicaragua.

FM Amirabdollahian, heading a high-ranking delegation, left the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott following his less than one-day stay in the West African country.

The Iranian top diplomat is scheduled to hold talks with Nicaraguan authorities on mutual and international issues.

As part of his Latin American tour and following his stay in Nicaragua, he plans to visit Venezuela to discuss issues of mutual interest with Venezuelan officials.

Amirabdollahian arrived in Nouakchott on Tuesday night and held talks with his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, and Mauritanias President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.

The Iranian FM addressed reporters in the Mauritanian capital that Iran, as a country that is on the frontline of the fight against terrorism, will help efforts aimed at maintaining stability and security in Africa.

He also appreciated constructive and precious efforts made by the Mauritanian president to fight terrorism and to improve peace and security in the Western Sahara region, saying the Islamic Republic of Iran views those efforts as highly significant.
