Iran, Azerbaijan FMs discuss bilateral ties over phone

Iran and Azerbaijan have stressed the need for the resolution of existing misunderstandings between the countries, discussing the latest situation of mutual ties.

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Azeri counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov made the remarks during a telephone call on Thursday night.

The two top diplomats followed up on implementing bilateral agreements between Azerbaijan and Iran and called for further consultations between Baku and Tehran.

The two sides, meantime, considered the proper handling of the media by the two countries as constructive.

The foreign ministers of Iran and Azerbaijan also pursued the continuation of bilateral meetings in the capital cities of the two neighboring countries.

Bayramov and Amirabdollahian had also held phone calls on April 8 and April 14.

The relations became strained in January when the Eurasian country's Embassy in the Iranian capital of Tehran came under an attack.

Azerbaijan termed the attack as a "terrorist" incident, although, a probe has shown that the attacker had been motivated by "personal and family-related problems."

Azeri President Ilham Aliyev also blamed the incident on the "Iranian establishment."

Later, Baku expelled four Iranian diplomats, prompting Tehran to respond with a similar move.

Azerbaijan has, at the same time, been boosting its ties with the Israeli regime.
