China and India willing to boost cooperation with Iran after BRICS nod
The Iran Project -Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed China's willingness to strengthen cooperation with Iran on various platforms, including BRICS, following Iran's invitation to become a full member of the group.

During a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi at the margin of 15th BRICS leaders' summit in Johannesburg, President Xi congratulated Iran on its membership and emphasized China's commitment to deepening mutual trust and supporting each other on issues of core interests.

President Raisi reciprocated by voicing Iran's readiness to enhance bilateral cooperation with China and contribute to the boosting of multilateralism.

He also highlighted the importance of enforcing the comprehensive 25-year deal between the two countries.

Additionally, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with President Raisi, covering a wide range of topics such as trade, investment, energy, connectivity, counter-terrorism, and Afghanistan.

Both leaders expressed their satisfaction with Iran's inclusion in BRICS and discussed ways to deepen trade and cultural cooperation between India and Iran.

They also emphasized the need for infrastructure cooperation, including the Chabahar project, and exchanged views on regional developments, including Afghanistan.

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdolllahian praised Iran's membership in BRICS as a significant achievement that promotes multilateralism and aligns with Iran's macro strategies in implementing dynamic diplomacy.

The "Friends of BRICS" summit, attended by President Raisi, took place in Pretoria, South Africa, and the group announced its decision to admit Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia as new members from January 1, 2024.
