The Iran Project : The chairman of the Association of Worn-out Vehicles Scrapping and Recycling Centers says 35 to 40 percent of cars in the country have been worn out.
According to The Iran Project, Mahmoud Mashhadi Sharif made the comments at a press conference on Saturday.
According to official statistics, there are 2.5 million passenger cars and about 9 to 10 million worn-out motorcycles in the country, he said.
In 2019, about seven thousand worn-out cars, in 2020, about 13 thousand worn-out cars, in 2021, more than 28 thousand worn-out cars, in 2022, more than 30 thousand worn-out cars, and in 6 months of this year, about 30 thousand worn-out cars have been decommissioned, the official added.
This year, 100,000 used cars were supposed to be scrapped, but 30,000 cars have been scrapped so far, he stated.
By the end of the year, almost the number of scrapped cars will reach zero without the approval and notification of the regulations for decommissioning worn-out cars, he stressed.
Noting that scrapping worn-out cars helps to reduce air pollution, he said, “Air pollution has caused human and financial losses so that in 2023 we had only three days of clean air.”
In addition, each worn-out car consumes 4.13 liters of excess fuel; It means that every worn-out car has a surplus consumption of 132 thousand tomans per day, which is 48 million tomans per year, he asserted.
