Two Iranian conservative candidates drop out of presidential race

The Iran Project : Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi and Alireza Zakani, two among the six candidates who are competing to become Iran’s next president after the death of Ebrahim Raisi, have withdrawn from the race.

According to The Iran Project, Ghazizadeh Hashemi, a former parliamentarian and vice president, announced his withdrawal from the contest in a statement on Wednesday.

Also, Zakani announced his withdrawal in a post on his X account on Thursday a day before the presidential elections.

The candidates remaining in the race are Saeed Jalili, a former lead nuclear negotiator, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Iranian Parliament speaker, Mostafa Pourmohammadi, former interior minister, and Masoud Pezeshkian, former health minister.
