The Iran Project : Mohammad Javad Zarif, the former Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, has strongly denied rumors published by the website "The Spectator index's" regarding the role of Iran's Supreme Leader in the formation of Masoud Pezeshkian's cabinet, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to The Iran Project, Zarif emphasized that the claims made by "The Spectator index" about coordination with the Supreme Leader and Ali Rabiei, a reformist figure and former spokesperson of the Iranian government, are completely baseless.

Zarif has always pointed out that the final decision regarding the cabinet line-up has been made by the president and that he supports any such decision.

"The Spectator index" had claimed in a report that Zarif, in an email to "one of our sources" in Tehran, stated that "Pezeshkian's cabinet was finalized with the coordination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, Ali Rabiei, and Pezeshkian himself."

The website also alleged, quoting Zarif, that in this email, Zarif mentioned he was deceived by Rabiei into supporting Masoud Pezeshkian and accepting the position of deputy of strategic affairs.

Zarif has called The Spectator index's claims unfounded and entirely false.

President Pezeshkian submitted his cabinet list to the Iranian Parliament on Sunday. One day after the submission, Zarif, who had supported Pezeshkian during his presidential campaigns, said he would continue his career at the university. He was appointed as the deputy president for strategic affairs.
