Iran's electricity generation exceeds 98,000 GWh

Iran
Iran has generated 98,805 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21), marking a 3.84-percent growth year-on-year.
According to a report published by IRNA on Thursday, thermal power plants accounted for 92,451 GWh of the total volume of Iran's generated electricity while hydroelectric power plants generated 6,354 GWh of electricity.

The report added that 100,229 GWh of electricity were supplied to the national grid to meet domestic needs. The figure showed a 3.66-percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Iran is currently exchanging electricity with Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey.

In May, Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad announced that the Islamic Republics electricity exports to neighboring countries had increased by about 40 percent since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year.

He said Iran aims to export 1 billion megawatt-hours of electricity in the current Iranian year, and has signed several contracts with neighboring countries in this regard.

On January 19, Managing Director of Iran Power Generation and Transmission Company (TAVANIR) Homayoun Hayeri said the country ranks first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation.

Irans electricity industry ranks 14th in the world and first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation with an installed power generation capacity of 67,806 MW, Hayeri added.

He noted that Iran is the largest exporter and importer of electricity in the Middle East and is exchanging power with many countries in the region.

Hayeri further noted that Irans power exports and imports are set to increase to 15 billion MW by the end of the current Iranian calendar year.

The Iranian official also pointed out that 99 percent of the equipment required for power generation, transfer and distribution is domestically designed and produced.
