Turkish politician: Erdogan mad at Syrian Kurds

TEHRAN (FNA)- Syrian Kurds unbreakable allegiance and loyalty to President Bashar al-Assad and his government has become a source of increasing concern for Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Deputy Head of the Turkish Nationalist Movement Party Emin Haluk Ayhan said Wednesday.

Speaking to FNA in an exclusive interview today, Ayhan pointed to Ankara's call on the Syrian Kurds to hold up arms against the Damascus government as a big mistake.

He noted Erdogan's deal with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), and said this meant accepting the PKK as a party to talks and negotiations and "this move has been a grave mistake".

As a result of this (wrong diplomacy), Erdogan today has been made to accept Syrias Kurdish Democratic Party which is an offshoot of the PKK as a party (to his deals and strategies) and warn the Syrian Kurd leaders to stay away from Assad and join the opposition groups.

"Due to Erdogan's grave mistake with regard to the PKK, the offshoot of this group in Northern Syria has become a neighbor of Turkey and party to its deals and strategies which is very dangerous, given the fact that the Syrian Kurds have rejected Erdogan's demand," Ayhan added.

"These days there are words about the invasion of Turkey by 3,000-strong groups from Syria, meaning that Turkish borders are now insecure due to Erdogan's policies," he said, reiterating that Erdogan is now deeply worried about the possible problems that his policy might cause.

In March, Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan called for a truce in an open deal with Ankara after years of war and urged the fighters of his PKK organization to withdraw from Turkey.

The Turkish government, however, said that the PKK should go to the Northern parts of neighboring Iraq and encourage the Kurdish population in Syria to fight against the Damascus government. But the Kurdish population in Syria strongly rejected the call.

In response, Turkey and Saudi Arabia ordered Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist groups in Syria to target Syrian Kurds after the latter renewed allegiance to the Damascus government and declared strong opposition to Ankara's plan for the Kurdish population in the region, the Arabic-language al-Watan daily reported earlier this month.

The al-Qaeda-linked terrorist groups, the al-Nusra Front and the Sham and Iraq Islamic Emirate, attacked the Kurdish regions of Aleppo after Saudi and Turkish governments asked them to do so, the newspaper said.

The Takfiri and al-Qaeda groups are trying to bring the Kurdish regions of Northeastern Syria under their control by getting rid of the Kurdish militias.

The attacks against the Syrian Kurds came after Ahmad al-Jarba, president of the Syrian National Coalition called for participation of Kurdish representatives in the upcoming Geneva II Conference.

Last week, a senior PKK member warned that Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has held a series of meetings with leaders of extremist groups in recent months to prepare the ground for the suppression of Syrian Kurds.

"We are informed that Davutoglu has contacted the extremist groups secretly and turned them into a tool to suppress the Syrian Kurds," Murat Qarailan, a member of PKK Leadership Council, was quoted as saying by Turkey's Taraf newspaper.
