TEHRAN (Tasnim) A senior commander of Irans air defense forces said the countrys latest achievements including modern radars will be unveiled in the forthcoming wargames.
Lieutenant Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base for Executive Affairs General Shahrokh Shahramtold Tasnim on Monday that a number of state-of-the-art achievements made by technicians and experts of Iranian air defense units will be unveiled during the upcoming aerial wargames, codenamed Modafean-e Aseman-e Velayat 5 (Defenders of the Velayat Sky-V).
The Iranian commander said the planned wargames will see modern indigenousradars among other advanced air defense equipment. However, he declined to give more details about the radars.
General Shahram also touched upon a number of indigenous missile defense systems that are now in progress.
He noted that development of the Iranian Bavar-373 missile defense system is on schedule.
He added that a domestically-made system, dubbed the Mersad, is now far more advanced compared to 8 months ago, when it was first unveiled.
The greatest achievement of the air defense base is that its products are up-to-date, and have been upgraded in terms of range, speed and precision, Shahram added.
Irans air defense decided to produce Bavar-373 missile defense system after Russia's refusal to sell S-300 systems to Iran.
Under a contract signed in 2007, Russia was required to provide Iran with at least five S-300 defense systems.
Moscow refused to deliver the system to Iran under the pretext that it is covered by the fourth round of the UN Security Council sanctions against Iran.
