Siri Island to turn into Irans gas export hub: Official

The managing director of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) says Siri Island in the Persian Gulf will turn into the countrys gas export hub in the near future.
Mahmoud Zirakchianzadeh said on Sunday that Siri Island is currently connected to the main production and consumption centers through a pipeline network, which runs hundreds of kilometers.

He added a pipeline, running 147 kilometers (91 miles) through the sea, links the island to the Salman oilfield in the Persian Gulf, which is shared by Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

Zirakchianzadeh went on to say that Siri Island is also connected through a 313-kilometer-long (194-mile-long) pipeline to Assaluyeh in the southern province of Bushehr, a 67-kilometer-long (41-mile-long) pipeline to the Mobarak offshore platform as well as an 80-kilometer-long (49-mile-long) pipeline to Sharjah -- the third largest emirate of the United Arab Emirates.

The IOOC managing director further stated that Siri Island covers the Dena, Sivand, Esfand, Alvand and Mobarak oil fields as well as the Nosrat oil field, which lies 28 kilometers (17 miles) south of the island.

On February 14, the largest natural gas liquids (NGL) plant in the Persian Gulf came on stream in Siri Island.

The Siri NGL project, which includes a pipeline linking Siri Island to Qeshm Island, and another pipeline connecting Siri Island to Kish Island, Siri NGL plant, and Kish gas pressure boost station, costs $500 million.

The plant reportedly collects 100 to 104 million cubic feet per day of dry gas, and saves Iran around $5-7 million per day and over $2 billion per annum as a result of not burning flare gas.

The NGL plant is projected to produce 1,400 barrels of gas condensates, 1,500 barrels of pentane, 4,000 barrels of butane, and 8,000 barrels of propane per day.

Several Asian and European countries have expressed readiness to purchase condensate and gas liquids from the Siri plant, despite the illegal US-engineered oil and gas sanctions against Iran.
