Deputy UN Sec Gen meets Iranian envoy to Syria

Damascus, Sept 6, IRNA -- Deputy UN Secretary General in Humanitarian Affairs Valery Amos met and conferred with the Islamic Republic of Iran Ambassador to Syria Mohammad-Reza Raouf Sheibani here Thursday.
According to IRNAs dispatched reporter to Syria, in the meeting Amos presented a report on his meetings with the Syrian officials and the moves that the UN has made in provision of humanitarian aides for the Syrian refugees.

He also referred to Irans status in Damascus, asking for Tehrans assistance in further facilitating for offering the UN contributions to the Syrian nation.

The deputy UN secretary general emphasized that the Syrian government has done all its best for appropriate distribution of the UN contributions among the people in need of them and appreciated the Islamic Republic of Irans generous contributions for the same purpose, particularly the medical and sanitary items that Iran has sent here.

He also appreciated the Islamic Republic of Iran for hosting a trilateral conference among Iran, Syria and Switzerland to harmonize the international contributions for the Syrian nation.

Ambassador Sheibani, too, presented a report on the humanitarian aides of the Islamic Republic of Iran ever since the intensification of the Syrian crisis.

He said the major cause for the ongoing human catastrophe in Syria is the economic embargo imposed against that country, saying, Such moves rather than punishing the Syrian government are putting at risk the lives of the ordinary Syrian people.

The Ambassador of Iran to Syria also announced the Islamic Republic of Irans readiness for dispatching a greater amount of humanitarian contributions for the Syrian people.

The deputy UN secretary general in humanitarian affairs is in Syria said under such conditions that the US is lobbying for international support for military intervention in the already crisis ridden Arab country.

They accuse the government of President Bashar al-Assad of using chemical weapons against its opponents and civilians on different occasions, the last one of them on August 21, a charge the government has strongly rejected.

Iranian officials have condemned threat of military action against Syria and warned those pressing for such a measure against its grave consequences.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, too, had earlier said: If such a move (possible attack on Syria) takes place, the Americans will surely suffer losses just like what they underwent in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Leader also described the US possible military intervention in Syria as a disaster for the region, adding, Transregional and foreign powers intervention in a country will result in nothing but igniting fire, and will also increase the nations aversion to them (meddling countries).

Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, too, on August 28 warned the US about severe consequences of any military intervention in Syria, and stressed that the possible war in Syria will result in imminent destruction of the Zionist regime of Israel.
