FM: Iran attaches great importance to expansion of ties with neighbors

Baghdad, Sept 8, IRNA Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said Sunday that the Iranian government attaches great importance to expansion of relations with its neighboring countries.
Zarif made the remarks while talking to reporters upon arrival in Baghdad.

Referring to the current trip as his first foreign visit in his new capacity, he said it indicates that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great importance to enhancement of relations with its neighboring countries.

The Iranian foreign minister was warmly welcomed by his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari upon arrival in Baghdad international airport.

Zarif underlined that he would discuss issues of mutual interests and the current developments in the region with Iraqi officials.

Zebari, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with the current visit to Iraq of his Iranian counterpart.

Zarif is scheduled to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi during his day-long stay in Baghdad.
