TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans President Hassan Rouhani and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani here Tuesday condoled with the Iranian nation on the death of 44 people who lost their lives in a collision between two buses near the city of Qom.The president ordered the health minister to personally oversee the treatment of the victims of the accident, and asked the ministers of road and urban development and the interior to carefully study the causes of the accident, and to adopt necessary measures to prevent the occurrence of similar accidents in the future.
In a separate message to the bereaved families, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani expressed deep sympathy with them.
At least 44 people were killed and 47 other injured when two buses collided in a highway connecting Tehran to Irans Central city of Qom last evening, police and medical sources announced.
The collision occurred around Monday evening and fire broke out in both of the buses.
The head-on collision, he said, was so hard that both buses burst into flames immediately after the crash.
Meanwhile, Irans Traffic Police Chief General Mehmandar said the fire after the fatal crash was mainly due to defect in the electricity systems of the vehicles.
