An Iranian deputy Foreign Minister has voiced Tehrans readiness to assist the fact-finding committee pursuing the fate of Lebanese Shia leader Imam Moussa al-Sadr.
Libyan officials have not provided any reliable evidence about the death of Imam Moussa al-Sadr, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdullahian said on Saturday.

Reiterating the Islamic Republics resolve to pursue the issue, Amir-Abdullahian called on the Libyan government to make more effort to determine the fate of al-Sadr.

Imam Moussa Sadr and his two companions were kidnapped in August 1978 during an official visit to the Libyan capital, Tripoli, to meet with officials from the government of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

He was accompanied by two of his companions, Mohammed Yaqoub and Abbas Badreddin.

The Lebanese Shia cleric, who is of Iranian descent, is widely believed to have been abducted on the orders of former Libyan officials.
