Iranian lawmakers back Rouhanis stands

Two hundred and thirty Iranian lawmakers have expressed support for the stances adopted by President Hassan Rouhani during his visit to New York, where he delivered a speech to the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Iranian lawmakers hailed President Rouhani for presenting Iran as a powerful and peace-loving country, which seeks interaction and dialogue as the solution for regional and international issues.

The lawmakers expressed hope that those countries that have accepted the reality of a powerful and influential Iran and the determining role of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei would try to lift the cruel sanctions on Tehran and respect the rights of the Iranian people.

In addition to his address to the UN General Assembly, Rouhani, who currently holds the rotating presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), also addressed the opening of the NAM Ministerial Meeting on Cooperation for the Rule of Law at the International Level, held at the UN headquarters in New York.

Prior to departing New York for Tehran on September 27, Rouhani and US President Barack Obama held a telephone conversation. The call was the first direct communication between an Iranian and a US president since Irans Islamic Revolution in 1979.

The two presidents stressed Tehran and Washingtons political will to swiftly resolve the Wests dispute over Irans nuclear energy program.
