A top Iranian nuclear negotiator says any cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) which is beyond the Safeguards Agreement must be defined within a clear framework and accepted by both sides.
On Wednesday, Abbas Araqchi stated that Irans new proposal to the IAEA depends on the manner and form of the cooperation between Iran and UN nuclear agency rather than the substance of cooperation.
The change in Tehrans new approach in interacting with the IAEA does not mean a change in the fundamental positions and principles of Iran, he stated.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has long stressed that any cooperation beyond its obligations must be within a defined and clear framework and accepted by both sides, Araqchi pointed out.
According to international regulations, the IAEA is responsible for the verification and assurance of the compliance of member states with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and international commitments.
On Monday, Araqchi presented Irans new approach to its nuclear energy program in a meeting with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano.
The Iranian official said that in his talks with Amano, he has given a detailed explanation about Irans new approach.
On Tuesday, Iran and the IAEA described their two-day negotiations in Vienna as very productive.
The two sides agreed to hold the next round of talks in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on November 11.
