Meeting with UK official positive: Iran diplomat

An Iranian deputy foreign minister has expressed satisfaction over a recent meeting with his British counterpart where they exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
It was a good meeting and we discussed different matters, including the issues regarding the P5+1 [talks] (Irans nuclear talks with six world powers) and bilateral issues, said Irans Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-e Ravanchi about his meeting with British Foreign Office Political Director Simon Gass in Geneva.
With regard to bilateral issues, we discussed the details related to non-resident charg d'affaires. The issue of non-resident charg d'affaires is new and we should talk about its details, he added.
Ravanchi noted that he is scheduled to have another meeting with Gass on Friday.

In November 2011, Iranian lawmakers voted by a large majority to downgrade diplomatic ties with the UK after Londons decision to impose sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran over the allegation that the countrys nuclear energy program may consist of a covert military component.

Two days after the decision by Majlis, hundreds of Iranian students staged a protest outside the British Embassy in Tehran, pulling down the UK flag and demanding the expulsion of the British envoy.

Following the incident, Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague announced on November 30, 2011, that London is withdrawing its diplomatic staff from Iran and that the Iranian Embassy in London would be closed.

Oman is currently representing Iran's interests in the United Kingdom.
