TEHRAN, Nov. 10 (MNA) Iran will double the capacity of power generation capacity by its dispersed power stations by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2014), the managing director of Iran Power Generation Transmission and Distribution Management Company (TAVANIR) said on Saturday.The capacity will be boosted from 500 megawatts (MW) to 1000MW, the Mehr News Agency quoted TAVANIR managing director Homayoun Haeri as saying.
Dispersed generation is the production of electricity at or near the point of use, irrespective of size, fuel or technology.
Dispersed generation is strategically located on the transmission grid to overcome bottlenecks in the transmission and distribution system and to improve the stability of the system.
On October 9, Haeri said Iran plans to construct three new wind farms, each with a power generation capacity of 350MW.
In the near future, TAVANIR will ink deals with private sector companies to design, construct, and operate the new wind farms, he added.
Haeri also said the countrys total wind farm power generation capacity currently stands at 120MW.
He went on to say that Irans total power generation capacity currently stands at 68.38 gigawatts.
Iran exports electricity to Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan (including the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic), Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.
Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
