TEHRAN (FNA)- Managing-Director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Mostafa Kashkouli said the countrys power plants have stored more than 4.3 billion liters of liquid fuel, which will be adequate for winter.
Kashkouli said that the power plants liquid fuel use has grown this year in a way that during the first 8 months of this year they have consumed 3.7 billion liters more liquid fuel in comparison with similar period last year.
"Despite rising consumption, it is expected supply and distribution of various oil products goes on normally and without any problem, mainly due to a high level of storage," he told the oil ministry's website.
Irans power plants are among the main consumers of liquid fuel over the last five months of each year when the weather is relatively cold. Rising natural gas consumption by residential and commercial sectors during the winter leaves no option for power plants except to use more liquid fuel for generating electricity, which in turn adds to the responsibilities of NIOPDC for meeting power plants fuel needs in winter.
Thermal power plants account for generating 95 percent of electricity needs of the country.
