Tehran, Nov 25, IRNA Senior MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi in a meeting with UN Special Envoy to Afghanistan Nicholas Haysom on Monday said that Iran favors sustainable security in Afghanistan.
Boroujerdi who is the head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said that establishment of peace, stability and security in Afghanistan benefits all neighboring countries and requires their collective endeavor.
Boroujerdi stressed that the task of establishing security in Afghanistan should be entrusted to the Afghan people and the international communitys priority is to focus on helping Afghans reconstruct their country.
He described the upcoming presidential elections in Afghanistan as an opportunity for the Afghan nation to determine its own destiny.
The UN envoy, for his part, stressed the role of Afghanistans neighboring countries, mainly Iran, in restoration of security to the country especially after withdrawal of foreign forces in 2014.
Haysom said the security deal between Afghanistan and the US will have no particular effect on sustainable security in Afghanistan and the countrys different political groups play the main role in this regard.
He called for national peace dialogue between all Afghan groups and high turnout for the upcoming presidential elections to restore stability in Afghanistan.
