TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhaniunderlined the necessity for strengthening unity among the regional countries to minimize the effectiveness of enemy efforts to create rift among Muslims.
Regional states will not allow certain countries to target regional security by means of terrorism andto cause religious and sectarian strife, Shamkhani said in a meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Tehran on Tuesday.
He further urged the free and independent countries to strengthen unity and cooperation to play a leading role in international developments.
Iran will proceed with its principled policies and approaches to supporting the (anti-Israeli) resistance, establishing peace and calm in the region, and expanding amicable relations with neighbors, the senior Iranian security official added.
Elsewhere, Shamkhani said recent twin bombings outside the Iranian Embassy in the Lebanese capital of Beirut highlighted the importance of interaction among regional countries to fight terrorism and extremism.
In relevant remarks, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, once again, called for the regional states vigilance and unity against the plots hatched by certain foreign states to create disunity among them.
There is no way to rescue the region other than bringing peoples together and creating solidarity and unity among them, President Rouhani said in a meeting with Berri in Tehran on Monday.
Rouhani went on to say that world powers have long pursued their interests in this region through religious and ethnic disputes, stressing that foreign military intervention has led to an uptick in regional troubles and a decline in regional stability over the recent years.
There is not a single day when one cannot witness bloodshed in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and recently in Lebanon, he commented.
Earlier this month, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei urged the Muslim Ummah (community) to increase vigilance as enemies of Islam are hatching increasing plots to stir sectarian strife among them.
A major problem of the Muslim World today is the imposed, intentional and wicked problem of kindling differences among the Muslim Ummah and (Islams) religious sects, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Supreme Leader said that the global arrogance and colonialist powers are fully experienced in igniting sectarian strife among Muslims, adding, Hajjs capacities should be used for confronting (and defusing) these plots under the present conditions.
The confrontation (that the enemies are trying spark) among the religious sects will not be limited to the Shiite-Sunni confrontation and if the enemies of Islam can institutionalize these confrontations, they will put on their agenda sparking internal differences inside the different Shiite sects and Sunni sects, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
