Iran seeks to improve ties with Persian Gulf states: MP
A senior Iranian lawmaker says Iran expects friendly countries to support the legitimate right of nations to use modern technologies, voicing Tehrans determination to improve ties with the Persian Gulf littoral states.
The US and West created many obstacles in the way of Irans use of peaceful nuclear know-how such as sending the [nuclear] case to the [UN] Security Council and imposing economic sanctions [on Iran], deputy speaker of Iran Majlis Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard, said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Deputy Speaker of Kuwait's National Assembly Mubarak al-Khurainej in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on the sidelines of the 6th session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

With its steadfastness, the Islamic Republic took the first step towards securing the rights of the Iranian nation to possess peaceful nuclear technology in the recent nuclear deal with the six major world powers signed in the Swiss city of Geneva, the top Iranian legislator added.

On November 24, Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council -- the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain -- plus Germany sealed an interim deal in Geneva to pave the way for the full resolution of the Wests decade-old dispute with Iran over the countrys nuclear energy program.

Aboutorabi-Fard further said that Iran has a firm determination to strengthen its economic, political and cultural relations with neighboring countries and the Persian Gulf littoral states, particularly with Kuwait.
The Islamic Republic of Iran expresses readiness to establish friendship groups between the Iranian and Kuwaiti parliaments in order to increase relations and promote political, economic and cultural interaction, he stated.
In line with Irans policy to expand ties with the Persian Gulf countries, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif recently paid visits to Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar and discussed regional and international issues with their officials.

The Kuwaiti deputy speaker, for his part, said his country has always supported Irans right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Al-Khurainej also called for an end to the killing of civilians in Syria and said Kuwait stresses the importance of finding a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis through dialog.

He added that the flow of arms into Syria should be stopped and a ceasefire should be declared in the country as soon as possible.

Syria has been gripped by deadly crisis since March 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies - especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey - are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the violence.
