TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Acting Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi is scheduled to leave Tehran for Kenya tomorrow to take part in the African country's National Day ceremonies and discuss expansion of bilateral trade, economic and political ties.


Sarmadi, who will head a high-ranking delegation in the visit, has been invited to Kenya by the African state's Foreign Minister, Amina Mohammed.

Kenya will hold nationwide ceremonies on Thursday to commemorate its Independence Day, and Sarmadi and his accompanying delegation are due to take part in the ceremonies upon arrival in Nairobi.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister, who will be the first ranking official in President Rouhani's administration to visit Nairobi, is also slated to take part in meetings with senior Kenyan officials to exchange views on possible avenues for the further expansion of bilateral ties in various economic and political fields.

After the victory of Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, the different Iranian administrations have all prioritized expansion of ties with Africa.

Iran is an observing member of the African Union and has shown an active presence in previous AU summit meetings.

The country is considered as one of the AU's strategic partners along with India, Japan, China, several South American states and Turkey, while Tehran is also believed to be prioritizing promotion of its economic and political ties with the African states.
