An Iranian lawmaker says the motion to question Iran�s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be presented to the Majlis Presiding Board next week.

Mohammad Damadi said on Tuesday that the motion, which has been signed by 94 lawmakers, will be presented to the Presiding Board next Sunday. He added that the government has not mounted any pressures on the lawmakers to withdraw their signature and so far no one has done so.

Damadi said questions will address economical problems and recent fluctuations in the exchange market. The motion to summon the president to Majlis must be signed by 74 lawmakers.

The motion to question Ahmadinejad was originally submitted to the Majlis Presiding Board on June 27, 2011 and was signed by 100 Iranian lawmakers. However, it lost quorum after a number of lawmakers withdrew their signatures.

In December 2011 Majlis revived the motion and summoned Ahmadinejad for questioning. On March 14 2012, Ahmadinejad attended the Majlis session to respond to questions from lawmakers on a range of different issues.

According to Article 88 of the Iranian Constitution, the president must appear before Majlis within a month of being summoned.

It is noteworthy that earlier in September, Ahmadinejad criticized the performance of Majlis and its Speaker Ali Larijani for hindering the government�s actions. His remarks, in turn, drew criticism from lawmakers. A number of analysts have interpreted the questioning motion as Majlis� reaction to president�s remarks.
