Iranian FM to visit Pakistan for D-8 meeting, spokeswoman

Tehran, Dec 17, IRNA Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is to visit Pakistan on Thursday to take part in the D-8 meeting.
Speaking to reporters during her weekly press briefing, she said the ministerial meeting of the eight Islamic countries is to be presided by Pakistan who will head the organization in 2014.

She noted that the Iranian foreign minister is to meet with the his counterparts as well as Pakistani officials.

Afkham said that the D-8 is aimed at consolidating relations within the Islamic world and helping effective presence of Muslim states in the world economic arena.

D-8 comprises eight developing Islamic countries namely Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt and Nigeria.

Elsewhere in her remarks, the spokeswoman expressed sympathy with the families of the victims of the recent terrorist attack on the Iranian technicians and workers in Iraq.

She said it was clear to all that the terrorists were actually targeting the solidarity and peaceful life of the Iraqi nation, urging the Iraqis to maintain vigilance to safeguard their national solidarity.

Afkham said Iran has always warned against the danger of extremism in the region given the fact that a number of countries supported the terrorist Takfiri groups.

She said such countries have to stand accountable for their actions.
