Islamabad, Dec 19, IRNA Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Thursday received Iranian Foreign Minister Mr. Muhammad Javad Zarif and congratulated Iran on the recently concluded nuclear deal between Iran and P5+1, officials said.
The Prime Minister expressed the hope that the process of constructive engagement between Iran and the major powers would continue.
Pakistan will continue to support all efforts that further the cause of peace and stability in region, Nawaz Sharif said, according to a statement from the PM office.
He said Iranian participation in the 16th Council of Ministers Meeting of the D-8 earlier reinforces our shared confidence in the forum.
We need to further strengthen economic ties within the D-8 family, the PM added.
?As leading members of D-8, Pakistan and Turkey and Iran can play a more pro-active role to achieve our goals of economic development and prosperity of our people,? Nawaz Sharif said.
The Prime Minister said that his government places strong emphasis on friendly and good-neighbourly relations with all neighboring countries including Afghanistan, India and Iran based on the principle of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He said that the D-8 holds great potential to build on synergies between the eight leading Islamic countries.
The Iranian Foreign Minister said that Iran will support all initiatives of Pakistan to eliminate terrorism.
He extended invitation, on behalf of President of Iran, to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to visit Iran in near future. Nawaz Sharif accepted invitation of President of Iran.
Iranian foreign ministrys media office has quoted that during the meeting Foreign Minister Zarif said that Pakistan holds an important position in Irans foreign policy. He added that Iran is ready to boost cooperation with Pakistan in different areas including political, economic and cultural sectors.
Referring to developments in Irans ongoing talks, Zarif said that a new atmosphere has been created in which Iran and Pakistan should further boost bilateral ties.
The foreign minister on the occasion discussed three main issues in the meeting that include fighting terrorism and religious persecution, steps taken by Iran to complete Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project and expanding bilateral cooperation in economic sector.
