Iranian MPs urges FM to pursue cause of Al-Majeds death

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Five Iranian parliamentarians on Sunday asked the countrys Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to take proper steps to find the cause of death of Majed al-Majed, the Saudi terrorist who masterminded a deadly attack on Irans embassy in Beirut weeks ago

Describing Majeds death as suspicious, the Iranian legislators called on Zarif to follow-up on the case seriously.

On November 19, twin explosions near the Iranian embassy building in Beirut claimed the lives of more than 2 dozens of people and injured some 150 others. Iranian cultural attach in Beirut was also among the dead.

Later, an al-Qaeda-linked group, Abdullah Azzam Brigades, claimed responsibility for the bombings.Last week, the Lebanese army arrested Majed al-Majed, the Saudi commander of Abdullah Azzam Brigades.

However, the Saudi terrorists died on Saturday, January 4, after the deterioration of his health. Majed was suffering from kidney failure and required daily dialysis.

Also on Saturday, Chairman of Iranian Parliaments National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi described Majed al-Majeds death as very ambiguous and questionable, and called on Beirut to launch a comprehensive investigation into the case.

Under the current circumstances, it is necessary for the Lebanese government to conduct tests and perform an autopsy on Majed to establish the cause of his death and prepare a report on that, Boroujerdi said, urging Beirut to launch a special inquiry into the case if evidence shows the Saudi national did not die a natural death.

In relevant comments on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said the country remains resolute in its decision to pursue November attack on its embassy in Beirut through legal and international channels irrespective of reports that main culprit behind the attack has been pronounced dead.

There will be no disruption to the legal pursuit of the terrorist attack on Irans embassy in Beirut, said Afkham.
