United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed hope about the establishment of a government in Lebanon.
We sincerely hope that there will soon be the establishment of a government, Ban said at an annual news conference in New York on Friday, adding that he would discuss the issue with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Lebanese President Michel Sleiman.
I may have an opportunity of meeting either Prime Minister Mikati or President Sleiman this month and I will discuss this matter with them, Ban said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the UN chief voiced concerns over violence in the country.
I am deeply concerned about the escalation of violence witnessed in Lebanon in recent months, Ban said.
I call on all Lebanese parties to act with restraint and for the Lebanese people to come together to support the institution of the state.
