Shia, Sunni Muslims must stop differences: Mowlavi Abdolhamid

An Iranian Sunni cleric has called on Shias and Sunnis to close ranks against enemy plots which aim to intensify sectarian division among Muslims.

Mowlavi Abdolhamid urged Shia and Sunni Muslims to set aside their differences within the framework of Islam and embrace brotherly relations instead.

The cleric made the remarks in his sermon before the January 10 Friday Prayers in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province, his official websitehttp://abdolhamid.net/persian/reported.
Muslims must recognize one anothers rights, defend one anothers rights and attain brotherhood by observing justice and each others rights, Abdolhamid added.
He warned that enemies of Islam are hatching ominous plots such as sectarian, religious, ethnic and language strife among Muslims for their own interests.
The presence of capable Shia and Sunnis shoulder to shoulder in decision-making and management centers will not let anyone harm our unity, Abdolhamid noted.
Abdolhamid called on extremist ethnic and religious groups to embrace moderation or face ostracization.

The Sunni clerics remarks come as Muslims are getting ready to mark the Unity Week.
