German foreign ministry names Muslim woman as deputy spokesperson
Berlin, Jan 23, IRNA - A 35-year-old German woman of Palestinian origin has been appointed as one of the spokespersons of the German Foreign Ministry, media reports said here Friday.
The first Muslim to represent the public face of the ministry, Sawsan Chebli will be deputy spokesperson under chief spokesman Martin Schaefer.

Chebli?s previous posts were with the Social Democratic Party parliamentary faction and as an official dealing with ethnic minorities for the state government of Berlin.

The ambitious Chebli who holds a political science degree, views herself as a very devout Muslim.

Having 12 sisters and brothers, Chebli was born in Berlin and grew up in a migrant working class district of the German capital.

Initially stateless, Chebli was naturalized as a German citizen at age 15.
