Arslan travels to Iran in bid to boost relations

BEIRUT: Lebanese Democratic Party leaderTalal Arslanflew toIranMonday to hold talks with senior Iranian officials, LDPs media department said in a statement.
The statement added that theAleyMPs visit to the Islamic Republic came at the invitation of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Accompanying Arslan on his trip were caretaker Minister of State Marwan Kheireddine, Nassib Jawhari, the head of LDPs political council and Walid Barakat, the secretary-general of the party.

Speaking to reporters atRafik Hariri International Airportprior to his departure, Arslan, an ally of Syria, said the visit aimed to boost bilateral ties betweenLebanonand Iran.

Arslan saidTehranwas playing a great role in the region and the world, praising efforts by the Islamic Republic to protect the sovereignty and independence of Lebanon and boost its national unity.
