Iran produces 49,000 tons of waste daily
Zistboom:Some 49,000 tons of waste materials are being produced in Iran daily, said director general of Municipalities and Rural Management Organization, affiliated to Interior Ministry.
Masoud Ahmadi added that only 20 percent of the waste materials are being recycled in Iran, noting that waste collection and incineration plans should conform with the climate condition of each region, Mehr News Agency reported.

Ahmadi said that due to land shortage and high level of groundwater in northern cities, the implementation of waste incineration plan has been placed on the Interior Ministrys agenda.

"Adequate infrastructures should be prepared for the construction of incinerators under the supervision of municipalities, he said, stressing that no municipality of the country is able to build incinerators.

The official also said a number of agreements have been signed in a number of Iranian cities on manufacturing incinerators, while the technical aspects of the project have been ignored.

Ahmadi noted that lack of supervision over the performance of incinerators would lead to the production of pollutants, which are more hazardous compared to those generated by the inappropriate disposal of wastes.

"In order to solve the problem, the Interior Ministry has notified a comprehensive directive on waste management to all provinces of the country, he said.

He said that establishment of technical committees for improving the statue of municipalities in the field of supervision is among the other plans which have been placed on the agenda of Interior Ministry.
