Russias Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna has expressed his countrys readiness to assist the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in its mission to inspect Iranian nuclear sites.On Tuesday, Vladimir Voronkov stated that Moscow is ready to offer financial assistance to the UN nuclear agency in inspecting Irans atomic facilities within the framework of the Geneva deal.
Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council - Russia, China, France, Britain, and the US - plus Germany struck the deal in Geneva on November 24, 2013. The accord came into force on January 20.
He further noted that member states of the IAEA Board of Governors have authorized the world body to inspect Iranian nuclear sites within the framework of the Geneva deal, IRNA reported.
Voronkov stated that the IAEA will obtain more information about Irans nuclear energy program as it conducts the inspection process.
The Russian diplomat said the inspection of the Iranian nuclear facilities will make it possible for the IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano to ask for a budget.
On January 24, Amano called for donations for intensified inspection of Iran's nuclear program.
The IAEA chief said his agency needs extra-budgetary contributions of some 5.5 million euros (7.5 million US dollars) for the purpose.
"I call upon countries which are in a position to do so to make the necessary funding available," Amano told an IAEA board meeting.
On January 31, Director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said inspections of the country's nuclear facilities by the UN's nuclear agency are going smoothly.
Salehi said IAEA experts have visited all of Iran's nuclear facilities and will present their report to the agency in the near future.
