Representatives from Iran and the six world powers during nuclear talks in Geneva, November 9, 2013[/caption]A possible 'oil for food and equipment' deal between Russia and Iran, of which some Western media reported earlier, could have a negative effect on the negotiations on settling the nuclear problem of Iran, outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul said.
"We think that we should focus on that specific foreign policy issue and not do anything that might decrease momentum in the context of getting a deal on P5+1," McFaul said in an interview with Interfax when asked why the U.S. has concerns about the possibility of such a deal.
"We think that sanctions have helped to create the permissive conditions for negotiations, and we are very pleased with the momentum that we have," McFaul said.
"There is a very difficult road ahead of us for the next 6 months," he said.
"We think that we should stick to what's most important and not take the positive pressure off of the negotiations," he said.
