Top prosecutor says opposition leaders must repent to be released

Irans Prosecutor General has announced that efforts to end the house arrest of MirHosein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard and Mehdi Karroubi are futile and nothing will change unless they repent.
The Tasnim News Agency reports that Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei told a meeting of seminarians in Hamadan: Some are trying to end the house arrests to no avail; the leaders of the sedition threw the country into serious turmoil; peoples property was destroyed, some were killed and public property was vandalized.

Since the leaders of sedition have not repented for these criminal activities, nothing will happen, Mohseni Ejei stressed.

Mousavi and Karroubi challenged the result of 2009 presidential election with allegations of vote fraud and triggered widespread street protests. The establishment refers to them as leaders of sedition, but the opposition leaders reject that description and say that all of their activities and calls to protest were within the framework of the law. They have been under house arrest since February 2011, and efforts by the new moderate administration to have them released have so far proved fruitless.
