Nigeria: Iran offers scholarship to Kano indigenes
Kano The Government of the Republic of Iran said it would offer scholarship to Kano State indigenes to study Engineering and Agriculture in Iranian public universities.
Iran's Ambassador to Nigeria, Sa'eed Koozechi, who made this known when he paid a visit to the Kano State Governor, Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso, said Iran was encouraged to make the offer by the governor's disposition to education.

Mr. Koozechi, who was accompanied by his deputy, Abbas Faraji, said his country is interested in cooperation with Kano State and Nigeria because of the long standing relationship between the two countries.

He said: "Iran wishes to cooperate with Kano in education and agriculture because you have natural and human resources and we have the expertise to support you to fully exploit the potentials for economic prosperity."

He told the governor that his country also had expertise in engineering and petrochemicals.

Responding, Governor Rabi'u Kwankwaso, who thanked the Iranian authorities for the scholarship offer, maintained that his government was looking for opportunity to send more Kano indigenes abroad to acquire education and gain international exposure.

He said: "This scholarship will not only strengthen bilateral relationship between our countries but will consolidate our own little effort in promoting education. So far, we have sponsored well over 2, 000 students to various universities across the globe for undergraduate and postgraduate studies and we intend to do more in this area."

Governor Kwankwaso said Kano State is ready to work hand-in-hand with the Iranian government, especially in the areas of education, engineering, agriculture and other critical areas that will make the state a model of economic success.
