Tehran, Feb 18, IRNA - President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Speaker of Pakistan National Parliament Ayaz Sadiq said on Tuesday that Iran and Pakistan must cooperate in campaign against terrorism.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 9th meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States.
President Rouhani called for improved security situation in Pakistan in order to bolster the security of the Iranian borders.
Referring to suitable grounds for expansion of all-out cooperation between the two countries, President Rouhani expressed the hope to develop economic, political and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
Underlining the need to fight with terrorism and extremisms, he said that it is not acceptable to relate the religious and ethnic disputes to terrorism.
President Rouhani expressed the hope the security situation in Pakistan would be improved in order to prevent extremism and terrorism.
Both the Iranian and Pakistani borders should remain safe and such incidents are not acceptable, said President Rouhani in reference to kidnapping five Iranian borderguards.
We ask the Pakistani government to do its utmost to tackle the issue.
Iran and Pakistan should closely launch military operations to eradicate terrorism, he said.
The Pakistani parliament speaker, for his part, congratulated President Rouhani for his success in the presidential elections and wished success for him as well as the Iranian people on behalf of the Pakistani president and nation.
Pakistani officials call for expansion of all-out relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said.
Relations between Iran and Pakistan is of prime importance, he said adding that expansion of economic cooperation mainly on construction of pipelines will be continued seriously.
Pakistan is a victim of terrorism, he said adding that the Pakistani government and people are very sensitive to fight terrorism and will take necessary and timely action to this end.
Pakistan never lets terrorist actions to tarnish friendly relations between the two countries, he said.
I am quite sure that some foreign governments mastermind such terrorist moves to create problems for our country, he said.
