Tehran, Feb 19, IRNA A Syrian lawmaker stressed Wednesday that Irans presence in the recent international Geneva II conference on Syria was vital.
Hussein Ragheb made the comment while talking to IRNA on the sidelines of the 9th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States (PUIC) that kicked off in Tehran on Tuesday for two days.
He said one of the main reasons behind the failure of the Geneva II conference was absence of Iran.
Prior to the start of the conference, Syria repeatedly insisted on Tehrans presence, he said.
He regretted that Iran which has been pursuing a diplomatic solution to the Syrian crisis, from the very beginning of the crisis, was not present in the event while Saudi Arabia and Qatar which financially support terrorist groups in Syria participated in the conference.
Syrian-Syrian talks is still the best way to settle the dilemma, he stressed.
The Syrian member of parliament described Irans role in solving the regional problems as positive, crucial and significant.
Irans presence in international circles have been always fruitful for all Islamic nations.
