Syrian army regains control in several regions near Aleppo airport

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army seized back control over several strategic regions and sites in around Aleppo International Airport on Wednesday.
The army units won back full control of Tal-e Barakat and Al-Arz Al-Hamra towns as well as the Eastern parts of Al-Sokn Al-Shababi town in the vicinity of the airport today.

Aleppo airport in Northern Syria was closed at the beginning of 2013 amid security concerns as militants launched a campaign to seize several airfields in the area.

In November, Syria said its military had regained full control of several areas around Aleppo International Airport and could reopen the airport closed for nearly a year.

Revival works in areas and parts damaged by the terrorists were carried out later.

"All of the area Southeast of the airport is in the hands of the army," a military source said, on condition of anonymity, adding that a reopening was "now possible".

In late January, the First passenger plane landed in Aleppo International Airport after the Syrian army restored stability and security to the surrounding areas.
